Navy Deaths...just another day (old but forgot to post)

While talking to my co-worker (he is prior Navy) we got on the subject of the death rates from world war 2 compared to now. He said that the death rates on the carriers back then were much higher then today. I then asked him if there were any bariel's at sea on his carrier, which he replied "no". So i asked if during his 4 years in the Navy if there were any deaths at all and he stated that "yeah, there were 2 guys who died of alchohol poisoning. they were found dead in their bunks". WTF?!?!?!

Of course me and my ever-so-nosey mind decided to do some googling on how many alchohol related deaths there were in the Navy.

Suprise suprise, lookey what i found. Sure enough the two guys my co-worker had told me about were NOT the only two too have done this.Apperantly two navy men were found dead in their hotel rooms in Ghana, Africa back in january of 2008 while on liberty (which means they can go off the ship and do as they please).the third person was found alive.

On another link i found this list of people whom have died in the military and it listed what they died from, their rank and the day, month and year they died. Here is the death from the Navy.
" Navy
14 Jan 06 FC2 found deceased in hotel room by roommate. Possible alcohol poisoning."

those deaths i have mentioned were all in just the past 5 years. i have found links showing deaths dating back to as far as i could find.

Why is this happeneing?

I understand that the Navy, as well as many other branches , have rules and reading material on all this, yet guys still die.

Who do we blame more?

The Military, who doesnt do enough to insure that their soldiers are educated in the dangers of large amounts of alchohol consumption? (too me, a small panflit and maybe a few meetings doesnt do shit to help the issue or even combat it)

The parents , who may or may not have ,since day one, attempted to educate their kids on the dangers of peer pressure and drinking? (which even if they did,it all comes down to if the kid is smart enough to understand right from wrong)

The Media, for glorifying this habit of consuming large amounts of alchohol both socially and at home?

Or do we blame the soldier, who should have had the commensense to stop drinking after 3 drinks while in a foriegn country or even at home?

in my mind, all 4 are too blame.

Tell me what you think! i am very interested in your in-put. :)

here is the story of the shooting

Victims of a quadruple shooting that left one man dead early Sunday morning in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood told paramedics responding to the scene that someone had tried to rob them, a fire department spokeswoman said today.Fire spokeswoman Lt. Mindy Talmadge also said paramedics heard shots fired as they helped a wounded person.”There was an attempted robbery, and while we were attending to one of the victims, they heard more gunfire,” Talmadge said.Talmadge said it is not known where the gunfire came from, and no other injuries were reported. She said it doesn’t appear the paramedics were the target.”Our people were not being shot at,” she said. The initial shooting, which happened at 2:30 a.m. in a Minna Street parking lot between First and Second streets, left 26-year-old Blair Henderson, of San Francisco, dead, and three others injured. One of the victims was released from the hospital Sunday. Two people remained hospitalized today, one in critical condition.Police are seeking witnesses to the shooting, which occurred in a busy nightclub district.”There are clubs in that area, and some of these individuals were apparently patrons at some of these clubs,” homicide Inspector Antonio Casillas said.”We need people who were there, who know the people involved” to come forward, he said.No arrests have been made.Casillas declined to comment on a possible motive for the shooting, which he said was preceded by an “altercation.”"We have a wealth of information, but information in and of itself does not amount to evidence,” he said.Police are also investigating whether the shooting was gang-related.The incident is the latest in a recent wave of violence at or near San Francisco nightclubs. Some city leaders have criticized the city’s Entertainment Commission for not taking a more proactive role in enforcement.Police spokesman Officer Boaz Mariles said today that club owners and promoters also have to take responsibility.”We need the clubs to take more accountability for their patrons after closing,” Mariles said.”They need to disperse the crowds, they need to ensure the crowds aren’t loitering and creating a public nuisance to the surrounding communities,” he said. “It’s just good business, being a good neighbor and conducting good business. Because realistically, who’s going to come to an unsafe club?”"The department looks forward to working with the club owners and promoters, in ways to ensure the safety of the club’s patrons, even after closing time,” Mariles said.

Work, hour by hour drama

10:44pm - got to work early, shit is already going down.

11:00pm - I'm at work and find new rules because some dumb-ass lost the FCC key, which is VERY important and is something you NEVER want to lose.It opens the door ,to a room that has a panel, that goes off when something is wrong in the building (fire,smoke,etc..). We use the key ,to open the door, so we can check the panel as well as allow the fire department or engineers in there during an emergency so they know where the problem is located.
The rules are something i am used to from other sites, but the rest of my coworkers are pissed. haha such spoiled brats.

12:00am- While doing my interior rove, i got the crap scared out of me by employees i didn't know were still in the building. I am so jumpy tonight.

12:57am - Not even 3 hours into my shift i found the "Master key set" key box open. It's not supposed to be opened by anyone unless they have permission. the damn thing sends an email to all the big wigs if anyone has done anything to it. So of course i had to write a report about it. god!

1:00am- I'm sitting here in the SOC (Security Office) and all 3 of the damn large computer screens are blinking for some reason. I feel like I'm about to have a seizure. hhmmm....anyone for a rave in here? :P

2:30am - As i sit in my seat typing all this out, some major shit just went down in the alley by my work. As everyone knows, my work is near a club that pretty much is the favorite of all the hood rats and thugs. its 2:30 am and the club is starting to empty out. Out of no where i hear this popping sound, like a gun, then a whole lot of popping sounds after it. At first i thought it was a gun because the beginning shots sounded like it. But then i second guessed myself because the other shots were so many,so fast, that it came off like fire-crackers. Several minutes later a load of ambulance's,fire engine's and cop's came racing towards the alley next to my work.Come to find out, those really were gun shots. I'm assuming some one or some people got hit, because those ambulances raced away fast. An employee who was working late tonight heard the shots as well.
How shitty is that? you leave your house thinking you were just going to party with some friends ,not knowing that at the end of the night you were going to get shot up? that's fucking crazy...but that's life out here.

3:00am - I'm on lunch break, playing on the computer. I just looked up the worst places to eat in SF. I found this little gem of a link.
http://blogs.sfweekly.com/thesnitch/2007/07/rat_shit_and_dinner_the_dirtie.php

I have eatin' at naan n' curry. :( i think I'm going to be sick.

3:54am - I left to go do my exterior patrol at this time and as i was about to turn the corner, i noticed a cop van and a few cop cars in the alley where the shooting occurred. i looked closer and noticed yellow crime scene tap and what looked like a yellow tarp on the ground in front of a cop car. there were pictures being taken. I hate to assume but, there must be a dead body under that thing.Wow, that guys night is ruined.

4:00am - I'm monitoring the SOC again.Damn flickering screens are giving me a headache and i have only been sitting in here for 10 minutes. haha

5:00am -it's starting to sprinkle outside. ggrrr.

5:16am - My co-worker went over to the crime scene in the alley, came back and confirmed that there is in-fact a body on the ground. The police are taking pictures (also being pricks) and about to take his body away. yup, you heard me right, it's in fact a guy, a young guy. the crime scene tape is still up.

6:00am - I'm rover again...yay! tons of walking to be done.

7:00am - GOING HOME!!! WOOT!!
